Tell Whitford about your new treasures

Don't let the joy of the holidays come screeching to a halt with an uncovered claim! Keep these rules of thumb when considering your holiday gift basket & makes sure your insurance coverage has kept up with Santa's Sleigh!

  1. Jewelry is a great gift but replacing it after it has been lost or stolen can be too expensive! Make sure to call your Agent with any watch/jewelry purchase that exceeds $1,000 to add it to your home or renter's policy. This provides coverage without a deductible & also allows for the replacement of any stones that fall out of the item
  2. Did Santa bring your son or daughter a sleigh of their own? You'll want to make sure you have coverage in the locations your child intends to ride their new ATV or dune buggy. If they intend to drive on roadways it may need its own insurance policy. Verify with your agent where your policy language permits the use of battery operated vehicles (such as a Barbie Car) for younger children as well.
  3. Do you have a Picasso or an Annie Leibowitz in your household? An expensive camera may need to be insured separately if it's going to go back and forth from home & school & any fine arts purchases can also require their own insurance.
  4.  Is this your first Christmas with an empty nest? You may want to consider an Umbrella policy to keep any retirement assets intact in the event of an accident during holiday travels
  5. Is your New Years resolution to expand your online business? Contact your agent to make sure you have the appropriate business coverage built in to your Homeowner's policy, especially if you're storing stock (for an Etsy store, for example) at your house
